About me
I am a fully licensed member of the British Acupuncture Council, the regulatory body for traditional acupuncturists in the UK. This means I am appropriately insured, and work to strict standards of hygiene, ethics and professionalism.
After completing a degree in psychology, I worked in the NHS for 3 years, 2 years within the PALS service. During this time I became increasingly disillusioned with the Western focus on treatment with pharmaceutical drugs, that often have side effects and don't offer a long-term solution to many of todays health problems.
I became more interested in the role that complementary therapies can play in offering a gentler, more holistic approach to treatment and the longer term benefits that this can produce. I wanted to help people regain and keep a sense of wellbeing and vitality, not just an absence of disease or short term pain relief.
I studied at the University of Salford and gained a BSc in Traditional Chinese Medicine (acupuncture). This included training in massage techniques, and I offer holistic massage as part of my treatment if necessary, and also as a seperate treatment. During this time I also completed a diploma in reflexology to expand my knowledge and treatment skills.
I have a particular interest in mental health and my BSc dissertation compared the use of acupuncture with antidepressants, for which I received a First Class.
I also continue to work part time within the NHS in Sheffield as admin assistant for the IAPT service (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies).
